The Office of Senator Jacqui Lambie is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Electorate Officer, based in the Parliamentarian’s Electorate Office in Burnie, Tasmania.
Position Overview
The Electorate Office is the initial point of contact for all constituent enquiries and is responsible for serving the needs of the electorate, managing constituent enquiries and assisting in the coordination of diary appointments for the Senator.
Senator Lambie is looking for a dedicated Electorate Officer A (EOA) to join her Burnie office, with a strong focus on constituent support and veteran advocacy. The successful candidate will be helping Tasmanians navigate complex systems and get the support they deserve.
This position is well suited to a highly organised individual with strong written and verbal communication skills, well-developed computer skills, a proven ability to conduct research, a willingness to learn and adapt, and the capacity to work independently.
Key Duties:
* Function as the first point of contact for constituents and other visitors to the Electorate Office, working to resolve their issues and answer any queries in a courteous, sensitive, and prompt manner
* Receive, triage and coordinate constituent enquiries (written correspondence, telephone and e-mail), including veteran matters and other case work
* Ability to research solutions and act as liaison with Government agencies and stakeholders as needed, to ensure matters are resolved in a timely and effective manner
* Assist the Senator and Office Manager with the management and scheduling of appointments
* Data entry and database management to maintain constituent information and contact details
* Identifying, engaging, and building strong relationships with community organisations
* Assist in planning and managing events and engagement opportunities for the Senator and the community
* Assist with a range of general administrative tasks within the office
* Travel within the electorate may be required
* Other duties as required
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and experience:
* High level oral and written communication skills, with excellent customer service capabilities and strong attention to detail
* Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
* Able to work proactively, independently and in a small team
* Ability to work to tight deadlines and plan, organise and prioritise work under pressure
* Familiarity with the use of Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, ZOOM, Teams and Excel
* Experience in office administration, stakeholder engagement and event management
* The ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and balance competing priorities
* Understanding of Australia’s system of government
* Suitable for someone who is empathetic, organised, calm under pressure, and driven to help people who face bureaucratic challenges
* Experience in supporting veterans navigate the Department of Veterans’ Affairs in a timely and solution-focused manner (highly desirable)
Employment conditions
This position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and the terms and conditions are outlined in Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27. This includes the following employment conditions:
* A commencing salary between $74,537 and $78,911 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills
* An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
* Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements)
* An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
