North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre (NEMLDC) are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
NEMLDC is a specialist school for children who have Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). We provide specialist speech, language, and academic intervention for children from Kindergarten to Year 2. Staff members work in a collaborative team that includes teachers, speech pathologists, occupational therapist, school psychologist, education assistants and the administration staff. Dedicated staff at NEMLDC focus on developing strong oral language skills to support literacy. Professional learning in the priority language areas is provided for new staff through our induction program and there is ongoing professional learning for all staff.
NEMLDC has over 300 students enrolled across three campuses which are co-located with West Morley, Beechboro, and North Balga Primary Schools. Education Assistants may be placed at any campus and may change campus locations according to the needs of the school. Staff are student focused, with high expectations, and value building of strong working relationships with our community.

The Role
Suitable applicants will ideally provide support and advice to schools and teachers on managing programs for students at risk, under the supervision of the Psychologist in Charge or a relevant professional. They would design and implement behaviour management plans in consultation with teachers, parents, and the Psychologist in Charge, ensuring these plans align with overall educational outcomes by maintaining detailed records of their implementation.
Additionally, suitable applicants should assist students in acquiring self-management skills, such as life skills, and consult with parents and caregivers independently of teachers, though still under the supervision of the Psychologist in Charge. They would also be capable of providing appropriate physical restraint and removal of students when necessary. Furthermore, they will inform parents about the education system, school procedures, and relevant school policies.
