What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Coordinator in AFP International Command's Strategy, Design & Evaluation (SDE). SDE develops and delivers a range of international strategic design, program design, evaluation and gender specialist services for AFP activities both offshore and in Australia.
AFP appointees ensure the achievement of outcomes are in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. Appointees at Executive Level work under the strategic direction of the senior executive and are responsible for the leadership and management of a number of teams to deliver outcomes.
Appointees require in-depth knowledge and understanding of the AFP business and the impact of roles and functions undertaken in relation to the organisation's reputation to effectively manage operations.
What will you do?
Coordinator SDE will contribute to AFP outcomes by leading and managing the SDE team leaders and their staff to provide high quality support, advice and services for the AFP's international initiatives. The role will include:
Creating the enabling environment for the provision of strategic policy advice, strategic design, evaluation and gender specialist services for AFP international activities;
Positioning SDE to provide a reliable, trusted source of evidence-based advice to inform AFP International Command Executive strategic decision-making;
Building and sustaining internal and external professional networks and collaborative working relationships, including with Whole of Australian Government counterparts;
Ensuring all financial and human resources in SDE are effectively directed to the achievement of SDE outcomes;
Using extensive knowledge and expertise to guide, mentor and develop team leaders and members to ensure the sustainability of skills and knowledge in the AFP;
Essential Requirements
You must be an Australian Citizen.
Demonstrated leadership and management experience, including the ability to manage specialists across multiple fields.
Demonstrated experience of excellent stakeholder engagement skills in complex, politically and culturally sensitive settings.
Policy experience, preferably foreign policy experience, in international development, national security and/or Whole of Australian Government strategic setting.
Ability to influence and shape Whole of Australian Government processes in line with the interests of the AFP through strong inter-agency relationships, partnerships and networks.
A Negative Vetting 2 (Top Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Ability to undertake short term (2-6 weeks) international travel, sometimes at short notice.
Desirable Requirements
Educational qualifications and/or experience in a relevant field such as: social sciences; anthropology; international development; international relations; gender; security studies; public policy management; diplomacy; policing and/or criminology
Experience working in regions outlined in the AFP's International Strategy 2020
