Mental Health Ambulance Police Program Clinician, Illawarra Community Mental Health Service
— Temporary Full Time until 31 May 2026. NSW Health opportunity based in the Illawarra region.
Responsibilities
Provide highly mobile, recovery-oriented clinical assessment, consultancy and support to NSW Ambulance and Police managing mental health-related cases in the community.
Deliver clinical leadership in the trialing of virtual assessment of consumers in the community who are geographically isolated.
Conduct mental health triage, primary client assessment and management of complex mental health emergencies and crises at an advanced level.
Apply extensive knowledge of mental health disorders and demonstrate clinical practices to support, treat, coordinate and educate emergency services working with consumers with complex mental and physical health needs.
Collaborate with NSW Ambulance and Police across multiple locations for shift arrangements (e.g., Nowra, Oak Flats).
Model CORE values (Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment) and contribute to research-based clinical practice, education, research and professional leadership.
Qualifications & Requirements
Applicable vaccination requirements for a Category A role.
Working With Children Check (WWCC).
Either:
• Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration and a minimum of five years post-registration experience with approved post-registration nursing/midwifery qualification relevant to Acute Community Mental Health; OR
• Registered Occupational Therapist with current AHPRA registration; OR
• Social Worker eligible for registration with AASW.
Valid NSW Driver's Licence.
Essential training and credentials as part of the role as defined in the Position Description.
This is a temporary leave relief position until 31 May 2026 with the possibility of extension.
