The Opportunity
ASD Finance is a growing team with a valued combination of new and experienced finance professionals, providing the full range of finance service and advice to the agency. Teams such as Internal Budgeting and Reporting, and Capability Program Finance work on the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, accrual reporting requirements and the preparation of External Budgets.
The respective Finance teams also deliver support, advice and guidance to ASD business areas regarding financial management, internal budgets and asset accounting. ASD Finance teams are also responsible for policy advice, compliance and assurance which includes conducting quality assurance checks on financial accounting activities and liaison with external auditors. The Capability Program Finance team focuses on advice and reporting for ASD’s large, complex Capability Programs delivered via the Defence Portfolio’s Integrated Investment Program (IIP).

Our Ideal Candidate
ASD Finance is seeking finance professionals, with strong experience in a financial environment, including skills in internal or external budget management, finance business partnering, financial reporting, financial statement analysis and compliance.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of finance practices across ASD. They will work closely with ASD Business areas to support the delivery of agency outcomes, meet their financial obligations and produce a range of written reports and briefs.
ASD EL1 Finance Manager
Candidates at this level should be highly motivated, with an eagerness and ability to enhance the finance functions of the agency.
They will also:
* Provide expert advice and support on complex finance matters to a range of stakeholders, including SES and Section Heads.
* Maintain in-depth knowledge of financial processes, financial legislation, compliance, policy and regulatory frameworks.
* Lead the preparation of monthly finance reporting, forecasting, analysis, budget development and management.
* Have the ability to operate and produce high quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
* Provide advice on technical accounting issues.
* Develop and manage relationships, working collaboratively with key stakeholders, including Finance, Procurement, Program Management and Business Optimisation.
* Take responsibility for the achievements of their own and team outcomes,
* Monitor progress and follow through to deliver quality outcomes.
* Build team capability by coaching others, providing performance feedback, conflict resolution and encouraging career development.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience or Training
* Tertiary qualifications such as Bachelor of Commerce/ Bachelor of Business or equivalent.
* CPA/CA qualified (or working towards qualification).
* Experience using financial systems such as SAP/ S4Hanna or TM1.
* Financial Reporting and Preparation of Financial Statements.
* Internal Budget Management and Reporting.
* External Budget Preparation and Reporting.
* Financial Governance and Compliance reviews.
* Program Management.
* Analysis of financial information to provide strategies for senior leadership.
* Experience in a similar role within a fast-paced complex environment (highly desirable).
* Ability to analyse financial information and the practical application of capital project financial management practices and associated assurance, reporting and data analytics (highly desirable).
