Energy Modeller – Sydney
A leading global energy analytics and forecasting organisation is seeking a highly capable Energy Modeller to join its Sydney-based forecasting team. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of industry-leading power market models and revenue forecasts used by developers, investors and operators across renewable energy, storage and distributed energy sectors. This role sits at the intersection of quantitative modelling, energy markets, product development and customer engagement.
You will help build the tools that the industry relies on to finance, benchmark and operate the assets driving the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
Model Development and Forecasting
* Build, develop and enhance in-house power market and dispatch models across multiple geographies and asset classes.
* Improve model depth, accuracy and computational performance to support high-fidelity revenue projections.
* Ensure modelling frameworks remain scalable, transparent and robust.
Data Engineering and Insight Generation
* Source, process and analyse large, complex market datasets used as inputs to forecasting and optimisation models.
* Transform raw data into structured insights to support scenario development and market analysis.
* Conduct rigorous QA checks to maintain credibility and trust in published outputs.
Narrative and Market Interpretation
* Shape and articulate the story behind forecast results, including policy outlooks, market design evolution, and structural trends.
* Produce forward-looking commentary to support internal and external users.
Customer-Facing Technical Communication
* Present forecast methodologies, scenarios and results to customers with varying technical backgrounds.
* Support users in interpreting outputs to guide financing, development and operational decision-making.
Product and Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Work closely with product teams to ensure forecasts and modelling tools meet user needs.
* Partner with engineering teams to integrate models into broader digital platforms.
* Contribute to improving analytical workflows through innovation, automation and use of emerging tools.
Experience and Background
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as engineering, mathematics, physics, economics, computer science or equivalent.
Technical and Market Expertise
* 3–5 years' experience analysing power markets or energy systems, ideally within the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM).
* Proven experience in power system or asset modelling, including:
o Price forecasting
o Optimisation and dispatch modelling
o Locational and real-time operational dynamics
* Strong understanding of renewable technologies, market design and relevant regulatory frameworks.
* Commercial awareness of how forecasts influence investment and portfolio decisions.
Programming and Engineering Skills
* Proficiency in Python and the scientific data stack (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn).
* Experience with optimisation and linear programming frameworks.
* Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS or similar).
* Track record of applying AI or advanced analytics to streamline or enhance modelling workflows.
