Senior Data Engineer Role
At our organization, we're seeking a seasoned Senior Data Engineer and Principal Consultant with 7-10 years of experience in Snowflake technologies to drive digital transformation initiatives within the energy and utilities sector. This role combines deep technical expertise in Snowflake's AI Data Cloud platform with consulting excellence.
We are looking for a highly skilled professional who can engage directly with energy and utilities clients to understand their unique data challenges, regulatory requirements, and operational objectives. The successful candidate will design and implement Snowflake-based data solutions for smart grid initiatives, renewable energy forecasting, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and implement Snowflake-based data solutions for smart grid initiatives, renewable energy forecasting, and regulatory compliance
* Engage directly with energy and utilities clients to understand their unique data challenges, regulatory requirements, and operational objectives
* Lead workshops and technical discovery sessions with utility stakeholders to define data architecture strategies
* Provide strategic guidance on data modernisation journeys within the energy transition landscape
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Data Cloud Architecture: Design and implement enterprise-scale Snowflake environments leveraging the three-layer architecture (Storage, Compute, Cloud Services)
* Snowpipe & Streaming: Architect real-time data ingestion pipelines using Snowpipe Streaming for IoT sensor data, smart metre readings, and operational technology (OT) integrations
* Cortex AI Implementation: Deploy Snowflake Cortex AI features including LLM functions, vector search, and Cortex Analyst for predictive maintenance and energy forecasting
* Data Sharing & Marketplace: Implement secure data sharing solutions and leverage Snowflake Marketplace for energy market data integration
* Performance Optimisation: Design and tune virtual warehouses, implement auto-scaling strategies, and optimise query performance for large-scale energy datasets
* Energy & Utilities Domain expertise
* Advanced Snowflake Capabilities
Requirements
* Snowflake Certification: SnowPro Core Certified preferred, with Advanced Architect or Data Engineer Associate certifications highly valued
* Snowpipe Technologies: Expert-level experience with both traditional Snowpipe and Snowpipe Streaming (Classic and High-Performance architectures)
* Multi-cloud experience with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform
* Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or similar tools
* Python and Scala development within Snowpark framework
* Modern data architecture patterns (Data Mesh, Data Fabric, Lakehouse)
* Energy & Utilities market knowledge, including regulatory frameworks
* Prior experience in a consulting environment
