Position Purpose
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Year 1 Apprentice Painter to join our team. This role is ideal for someone beginning their painting career who is eager to learn, develop practical skills, and contribute to high-quality project outcomes.
As a Year 1 Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of qualified painters and site leaders, assisting with surface preparation, painting tasks, and general site duties. You’ll learn safe work practices, how to use tools and equipment, and the foundations of planning and completing painting projects.

Qualifications & Entry Requirements
Required:
- A genuine interest in painting and decorating
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions
- Commitment to completing a Painting & Decorating apprenticeship
- Good work ethic, punctuality, and a positive attitude
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Current Driver’s license
Desirable (but not essential):
- Any WHS training (e.g., White Card, asbestos, silica)
- Previous work experience or pre-apprenticeship in painting or a related trade
- Enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills
- Able to work well in a team environment
- Good communication skills
- Reliable, respectful, and safety-focused
- Ability to follow directions and take feedback
Key Responsibilities
Learning & On-the-Tools Duties
- Assist with surface preparation including sanding, scraping, and cleaning
- Learn to apply paints, stains, and finishes under supervision
- Help set up and pack down work areas, ensuring a clean and tidy site
- Use painting tools and equipment safely and correctly
- Support tradespeople with daily tasks as required
Worksite Safety
- Follow all safety instructions and procedures
- Participate in toolbox talks and training sessions
- Wear required PPE and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment
- Report hazards or incidents promptly
Team Support
- Work closely with qualified painters and supervisors
- Demonstrate respect, teamwork, and initiative
- Be open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement
Administration & Compliance
- Accurately complete training requirements and apprenticeship documentation
- Assist with basic material handling and stock management
- Follow Programmed’s Zero Harm and safety policies at all times
