The role
Overview

Are you looking for a unique opportunity to engage in a secondary leadership position for the next 12-18 months?

As the Deputy Principal - Student Engagement, NPASC Senior Campus, you will work with your school leaders and the 5 communities of the Northern Peninsula Area to deliver differentiated support as part of the Partnership Initiative.

This role is offered on a full-time temporary basis until the end of Term 4, 2027, unless otherwise determined.

Partnership Initiative

This role supports the Department of Education's Equity and Excellence Strategy through the Partnership Initiative project, which is piloting tailored and differentiated support across 42 regional, rural and remote Queensland schools. Participating schools will collaborate with community partners and government agencies to deliver locally responsive, integrated strategies, strengthening relationships with early childhood education and care services, community organisations, government agencies, local businesses and other service providers. Place‐based approaches are underpinned by evidence showing improved outcomes for children, students, families and communities when services and supports are integrated. The initiative also strengthens the involvement of First Nations communities in decision‐making to improve learning and life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

Northern Peninsula Area and School Campuses

The Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) region is a narrow peninsula bordered by the Coral Sea in the east, the Arafura Sea and Gulf of Carpentaria to the west and the Torres Strait to the north. It consists of five First Nations communities: Injinoo, Umagico, Bamaga, New Mapoon and Seisa, each with its own history, languages and traditions. Northern Peninsula Area State College (NPASC) is a K‐12 college with three campuses. The Ama Mary Eseli Injinoo Campus and Bamaga Junior Campus are primary campuses for Kindy to Year 6, while Years 7 to 12 secondary education is delivered at Bamaga Senior Campus.

Opportunity

Working alongside the Head of Campus and College Principal, you will influence a place‐based approach within the school and community by collaborating with key partners and across government agencies to deliver locally responsive and integrated strategies to address school and community challenges.

Your commitment to ensuring students attend, learn and thrive will position the school as a champion for its students, families and the broader community. In this leadership role, you will drive change through the implementation of the system's Reading Commitment, ensuring all learners develop the skills required to become literate, lifelong learners.

You will also have the opportunity to support the Head of Campus and College Principal by analysing community trends and needs, consulting with key stakeholders, and promoting an inspiring educational vision for the future.

Role

The ideal Deputy Principal will demonstrate leadership in the following areas:

  • Use analytical skills to contribute to educational outcomes of students.
  • Design and implement inclusive support programs to improve student engagement.
  • Establish partnerships with external organisations, community and parents to foster positive sustainable relationships that improve student outcomes and opportunities.
  • Enhance Senior Schooling Pathways.
  • Work collaboratively with NPASC Primary campuses and regional support to ensure consistency of practice within the college.
How to Apply
  • Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (one referee must be your current line manager).
  • Attach a written statement (2‐page maximum) in response to the \"How you will be assessed\" section of the Role Description.
  • Attach a copy of your mandatory qualifications/registration outlined in the Role Description.

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.

Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department. Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
