As the Senior Functional Data Modeller you'll operate at the intersection of business strategy and data architecture, shaping the conceptual and logical models that underpin our clients products and decision-making. This is a role with real influence where you'll set standards and make the calls on where rigour matters and where pragmatism wins. Your expertise Significant experience in functional/business data modelling, with a track record of leading modelling efforts across complex, multi-domain environments Demonstrated ability to model domains with high inherent complexity, industries where data is interconnected, hierarchical, temporally variable, spatially referenced, or subject to regulatory and compliance constraints (e.g., supply chain, logistics, natural resources, healthcare, utilities, insurance, or similar) Deep understanding of entity-relationship modelling, normalisation theory, and when to apply or relax it Proficiency with industry data modelling tools (e.g., ERwin, PowerDesigner, Sparx EA, or similar) Strong facilitation skills — you can run workshops with domain experts who don't think in data terms and walk out with a validated model Excellent communication across levels, from C-suite to engineering teams What matter most to us We want you to be the liaison in the middle of business and data, and design models that actually drive decisions, not just structure tables. A pragmatic philosophy grounded in experience, you know the cost of over-engineering and the cost of cutting corners, and you calibrate accordingly Experience influencing modelling direction in iterative delivery environments Comfort working with domains that are messy, seasonal, event-driven, or not yet well-defined Design data models -> how data is structured (tables, relationships, schemas) Translate business needs into data → work with stakeholders to understand what the business is trying to achieve and map that into usable data structures Ensure data quality & consistency → define standards, rules, and governance around data Support reporting & analytics → enable BI tools, dashboards, and insights to actually work properly Work across tech & business → sit between engineers and stakeholders, making sure both sides align Term - 3 months initial Rate: Market Competitive Location : Melbourne based If this role is in your wheel house, apply now.
