About The Roles
Our Federal Government Client is seeking two senior architecture resources:
* Developer Portal Architect
* Cloud Architect (API Gateway Platform)
These contract opportunities are available across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra, with an initial 6‐month contract with 2x6‐month extension options.
As the selected candidate, you will join a strategic platform program focused on designing and delivering modern API and developer platform capabilities that support enterprise digital services at scale.
Role 1 – Developer Portal Architect
As the Developer Portal Architect, you will lead the design and delivery of a modern developer portal platform that enables users to discover, access, and manage APIs.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead end‐to‐end portal architecture across frontend, backend, and integrations
* Design frontend architecture using React‐based SPA frameworks and documentation platforms
* Define backend service architecture, including API orchestration and integrations
* Design AWS‐based hosting patterns (Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudFront/S3)
* Define API publishing, versioning, and developer experience standards
* Design integration flows for onboarding, credential management, and workflow orchestration
* Produce architecture artefacts (logical/physical architecture, ADRs, data models)
* Support transition planning from legacy platforms
Key Skills Required
* Strong frontend architecture experience (React, Angular, Vue)
* Experience designing REST APIs and backend integrations
* AWS cloud architecture experience (serverless patterns highly desirable)
* Understanding of OAuth2, token‐based authentication
* Experience developing architecture artefacts in structured environments
Desirable
* Developer portal / API platform experience
* Docusaurus or documentation platform experience
* OpenAPI and API documentation tooling
* Government or regulated environment experience
Role 2 – Cloud Architect (API Gateway Platform)
As the Cloud Architect, you will lead the design of a next‐generation enterprise API gateway platform, ensuring scalability, security, and integration across systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Design the target‐state API gateway architecture (logical and physical)
* Define request flows including authentication, authorisation, throttling, caching, and routing
* Design AWS infrastructure (VPCs, IAM, environments, deployment topology)
* Define architecture decisions covering platform posture, security, and operations
* Establish patterns for API onboarding, migration, and transition
* Design shared runtime patterns for logging, error handling, and observability
* Develop reusable templates for CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‐as‐code
* Support API lifecycle management and governance automation
Key Skills Required
* Strong AWS architecture experience, including API Gateway
* Experience designing enterprise‐scale API platforms
* Strong background in REST API development and design
* Hands‐on knowledge of TypeScript and/or C# .NET
* Deep understanding of IAM, CloudFormation/CDK, and infrastructure‐as‐code
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and multi‐environment deployments
Desirable
* Experience with API gateway platforms (e.g. AWS API Gateway, Apigee, MuleSoft, Kong)
* Knowledge of API transition patterns (adapters, shims, migration approaches)
* Familiarity with government security and architecture frameworks
* Experience with OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and identity federation
* Event‐driven architecture and streaming patterns on AWS
Security Requirement
Due to security clearance requirements for these roles, candidates must be Australian citizens and hold a current Baseline security clearance (NV1 desirable).
