Have you had previous experience in environmental health or completing study in environmental health? Do you have a passion for improving the liveability, health, and safety of the community?
We are currently seeking an individual who has a high level of communication, relationship management and negotiation skills to join our Environmental Health team on a permanent full-time basis as an Environmental Health Officer.
The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in Health Science or equivalent and relevant experience as an Environmental Health Officer in local or state government. You will have experience dealing with the public in person, on the phone and via email along with experience working as part of a team.
Key responsibilities include:
* Maintain an inspection service of all registered premises, wastewater treatment / disposal systems, caravan parks and public swimming pools.
* Record and maintain the food sampling register to guarantee that accurate food sampling is undertaken as specified by legislation and in accordance CPI's.
* Respond to and investigate nuisances and pest control activities as required by legislation.
* Ensure reports of infectious diseases are appropriately investigated and areas for improvement implemented as required by legislation.
* Deliver Council's environmental health obligations in the areas of legislation, community education and statutory compliance.
* Ensure that the minimum immunisation sessions are undertaken as required by the relevant legislation.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate how they meet the criteria below:
* Tertiary qualifications in Health Science or equivalent.
* Ability to meet the legislation objectives of the role.
* Extensive experience in inspection, review and approvals of onsite wastewater management systems, food and health premises and food sampling.
* Excellent communication skills, relationship management and negotiation skills.
* Ability to demonstrate initiative, effectively plan to meet strict deadlines and manage competing priorities.
* The ability to work autonomously with limited supervision as well as being able to effectively plan, organise and manage your own time is paramount.
