The team
The Ministerial and Parliamentary Services (MAPS) team is responsible for the coordination and management of parliamentary matters across the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and provides end to end coordination of the twice-yearly Budget Estimates process.
This includes but is not limited to the coordination of responses to Questions on Notice, Notices of Motion, speeches, urgent Parliament requests during parliamentary sitting weeks, preparation of parliamentary summaries, and supporting materials for the Budget Estimates hearings, such as Budget Estimates notes and responses to questions taken on notice and supplementary questions.
The role
We are creating a talent pool for future ongoing or temporary opportunities in the Senior Ministerial Liaison Officer (SMLO) role. The SMLO will provide support to the Manager and Director to ensure that parliamentary and ministerial support is timely and the interface between the department and the ministerial offices is well managed.
The SMLO will also develop and manage multiple stakeholder relationships to ensure an efficient coordination point for the flow of advice between the various ministerial offices and the Office of the Secretary.
What we’re looking for

* strategic planning and strong time management skills
* understanding of government functions and the legislative process.
* A sound understanding of the machinery of government and parliamentary processes is desirable.
Appointments are subject to reference checks. Some roles may also require the following checks/ clearances:
* National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
* Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
