Legal Counsel – Commercial Lawyer – 12 Month Project – Top ASX Listed Organisation
Join an award-winning in-house legal team consisting of 80 lawyers across Australia (Sydney and Melbourne) and New Zealand, supporting major projects including a corporate restructure and a large acquisition involving significant contractual changes.
The role:
Collaborate with the business and legal team to draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, procurement and supplier agreements, IP, privacy, data, consumer, CPS 230, and IT agreements.
Mentoring and support are provided by senior lawyers, with a hybrid working environment available.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic and practical legal advice on procurement, commercial agreements, partnerships, and consumer law.
Monitor legislative and industry changes to assess impacts and manage legal risks proactively.
Oversee legal aspects of projects and transactions, utilizing external support and legal tech tools.
Contribute to improving legal operations and share knowledge within the team.
Promote a risk-aware culture through sound legal guidance.
Build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders to align legal support with business objectives.
Experience & Skills Required:
Legal practice experience of 3+ years PQE, preferably with strong law firm training.
Proven ability in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
Knowledge of procurement and supplier agreements.
Experience with IT agreements and consumer law is advantageous but not essential.
Track record of leading complex negotiations independently.
Pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent project management skills with a strategic, client-focused approach.
Location flexibility in Sydney or Melbourne, with at least 2 days in the office weekly.
