The key duties of the position include About the branch The Legal Services branch is a dynamic legal practice that will offer you rewarding, challenging and varied legal work in support of Australia's premier criminal intelligence agency. The Branch has a positive, supportive and collaborative culture, where asking questions is encouraged and lawyers can identify innovative solutions to address legal risk and assist in the delivery of agency priorities. The branch provides a broad range of legal services across all ACIC functions. Predominantly the legal practice focusses on assisting the ACIC exercise its statutory functions which includes: Strategic legal advice to the CEO and senior executive; Providing legal advice on the making of criminal intelligence assessments and administrative decisions; Operational legal services in support of special ACIC investigations and special ACIC operations, and specialist legal advice concerning the ACIC's coercive powers; Counsel Assisting support to the Examiners; Providing legal advice and support to operational teams including in obtaining search warrants, controlled operations, telephone intercept and surveillance device warrants; Statutory interpretation of the Australian Crime Commission Act 2002 and other legislation relevant to the exercise of function of the ACIC; Advice and litigation matters relating to Information disclosure and information protection; and Working with internal and external colleagues to advise on government reviews and to develop and respond to law reform initiatives; Providing advice about contract law, contractual disputes, contract management, non-contractual agreements (MOUs), employment and property law (leasing), FOI, privacy and intellectual property.
