Agricultural Technician (Animal Husbandry) – Darling Downs QLD Employer: Smithfield Feedlot Pty Ltd Locations: Sapphire Feedlot (Goondiwindi) & Smithfield Pastoral (Prostan), Darling Downs region, Queensland Employment Type: Full-time, ongoing Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 superannuation About the Role Smithfield Feedlot Pty Ltd operates large-scale feedlot and pastoral operations across the Darling Downs region of Queensland, including Sapphire Feedlot and associated pastoral assets. We are seeking a full-time Agricultural Technician (Animal Husbandry focus) to support day-to-day livestock operations and assist in maintaining high standards of animal welfare, productivity, and quality assurance. This is a hands-on technical role within a commercial feedlot environment, working closely with livestock management, veterinary providers, and operations staff. Key Duties and Responsibilities Duties will include, but are not limited to: Assisting with cattle receival, unloading, induction, tagging, weighing, and recording livestock data Monitoring cattle health and behaviour and identifying signs of illness or injury Assisting with animal husbandry treatments in accordance with veterinary and feedlot health protocols Maintaining accurate livestock, treatment, and QA records Participating in drafting and dispatch of cattle, ensuring fit-to-load compliance Supporting feedlot welfare, biosecurity, and quality assurance systems Assisting with cleaning and maintenance of livestock handling facilities and equipment Participating in team meetings, training, and WHS procedures Skills and Experience To be considered, applicants must demonstrate: A qualification at AQF Diploma level in Agriculture or Animal Husbandry, or at least three years’ relevant industry experience Practical experience in livestock handling, preferably within feedlot or intensive animal production systems Knowledge of animal welfare standards, QA requirements, and safe handling practices Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills Ability to work as part of a team and follow standard operating procedures Willingness to work across feedlot and pastoral operations within the Darling Downs region Employment Conditions Full-time, ongoing position Salary range of $75,000 – $85,000 plus superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience Training and professional development provided Regional Queensland location How to Apply Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Australia or eligible for employer sponsorship.
