This role involves interpreting technical drawings and utilising various welding and metalworking tools and techniques to ensure quality construction, secure joining, and compliance with safety and structural standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine fabrication and assembly specifications;
* Operate metal cutting equipment such as angle grinders, plasma cutters, and oxy-acetylene torches to accurately prepare materials;
* Weld metal components using MIG, TIG, and Arc welding techniques, ensuring strength, durability, and compliance with applicable standards;
* Grind, polish, and smooth welds and surfaces to achieve clean finishes;
* Fabricate and install custom metal structures, including fences, gates, and frames, both in the workshop and on-site;
* Ensure structural alignment and secure assembly during installation;
* Apply rust prevention and surface finishes, such as priming, painting, and powder coating;
* Perform routine inspections and maintenance of welding and cutting tools and equipment to ensure safety and efficiency;
* Provide tailored fabrication and welding solutions in response to client specifications and site conditions;
* Comply with workplace health and safety regulations at all times, including safe handling of equipment and personal protective gear.
Required Skills and Competencies:
* Proficiency in operating a variety of metalworking and welding tools (e.g. MIG/TIG welders, plasma cutters, grinders);
* Strong understanding of metal materials such as mild steel, aluminium, and stainless steel;
* Accurate measuring, marking, and spatial reasoning skills to ensure fabrication precision;
* Ability to independently manage the full lifecycle of metal fabrication and installation;
* Knowledge of Australian workplace safety requirements, with a demonstrated ability to work safely in high-risk environments.
Tools and Equipment Used:
* MIG/TIG/Stick welders
* Plasma cutters, angle grinders, bench grinders
* Oxy-acetylene torch
* Measuring instruments, clamps, levels
* Painting and coating tools
Industries Served:
Construction, Metal Fabrication, Security Fencing, Landscaping, Property Development, and Infrastructure.
