Java EE System Administrator Contract Role (possible extension)
About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Java EE System Administrator to support the operation, maintenance and optimisation of enterprise Java application environments. This role focuses on the administration of J2EE application servers and Linux middleware environments, ensuring critical production and non-production systems remain stable, secure and performing effectively. You will support both operational activities and project initiatives across the full application lifecycle. This position is suited to an infrastructure specialist with strong experience supporting enterprise Java environments rather than application development.
Key Responsibilities
* Administer and support Java EE application server environments including WebSphere, WebLogic and Tomcat.
* Install, configure and upgrade enterprise application server platforms.
* Manage Linux middleware environments including Red Hat and SUSE Linux.
* Support the deployment and release of Java EE applications across development, testing and production environments.
* Monitor system performance and ensure platforms meet agreed service levels.
* Maintain operational stability, system availability and data integrity.
* Provide technical expertise to ensure correct operational procedures are applied.
* Collaborate with development teams, technical specialists and business stakeholders.
* Provide operational support for both production and non-production environments.
Skills & Experience
* Strong experience administering Java EE application servers (WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat).
* Experience managing Linux environments such as Red Hat or SUSE Linux.
* Experience supporting enterprise middleware and application platforms.
* Knowledge of application deployment processes across the SDLC.
* Strong troubleshooting and performance monitoring capability.
* Ability to work across operational support and project delivery environments.
* Understanding of Java application development concepts is advantageous but not required.
* Experience across public and private sector environments is highly desirable.
