Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Specialist to join our Financial Control team on a 12-month maternity leave contract based in Chadstone. You will be responsible for ensuring the business meets all taxation obligations across Officeworks, while providing expert tax advice to support commercial decision-making.
Responsibilities
* Take ownership of key compliance activities including income tax returns, BAS, FBT, and payroll tax, ensuring lodgements are accurate and delivered on time.
* Act as a key point of contact for external stakeholders such as Group Tax, auditors, and regulatory bodies, and manage relationships navigating complex tax matters.
* Contribute to improving tax processes and systems, identifying opportunities to reduce tax risk and enhance efficiency.
* Support month-end activities, including tax effect accounting and reconciliations, and partner with teams across the business to provide practical, commercially focused tax guidance.
* Contribute to strategic tax planning initiatives and stay ahead of legislative changes to ensure compliance and well-positioning of the business.
About You / Qualifications
* CPA or CA qualification
* Master's Degree in taxation (highly desirable)
* Experience in retail (desirable but not essential)
* Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex information
* Commercially minded, with a focus on identifying improvements and reducing tax risk
* Confident using financial systems (SAP experience a plus) and tax reporting tools
* Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
* Highly organized with strong attention to detail
