Technical Officer – Emergency Systems (Radio/Comms Technician) role at Marine Rescue NSW, based in Cronulla, NSW. Technical Officer - Emergency Systems
based in
Cronulla, NSW
.
This is a pivotal role supporting the Manager of Emergency Systems in developing, implementing, and maintaining state-wide radio communications and emergency services management systems.
Working closely with the IT team and broader operations, you will help integrate mission-critical systems and support volunteer members across NSW.
Responsibilities
Supporting the maintenance and expansion of the MRNSW VHF marine radio network and associated systems
Coordinating and administering competitive procurement for suppliers and services
Managing a virtualised computing environment supporting digital communications infrastructure
Assisting in budget monitoring for radio and IT infrastructure projects
Reviewing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures related to communications and IT
Collaborating with vendors and supporting contract management for key service providers
Visiting sites across NSW to support volunteer units and troubleshoot systems in person
Qualifications
To qualify, you will bring hands-on experience with
radio communications
and
IP network systems
, alongside a project management style approach to coordinating technical work. Proven capability in
systems administration
and
managing virtualised environments
, particularly VMware, is highly desirable, as is the ability to oversee vendor relationships and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
This role is ideally suited for individuals from a
radio or communications background
, with a solid understanding of contemporary data networks and their integration with radio systems.
Familiarity with VHF/UHF radio systems
Practical experience in the maritime or emergency services sector
Understanding of the radio and telecommunications regulatory environment in Australia
Experience maintaining virtualisation environments (e.g., VMware)
IP network knowledge including NBN, MPLS, LTE and microwave systems
Soft Skills / Personal Attributes
