Flood Warning Network Data Administrator Role Overview
The Bureau's Flood Warning Infrastructure Network (FWIN) Program is leading an initiative to improve flood warning infrastructure in Australia's highest flood risk areas. The program will acquire, upgrade, and integrate existing local government-owned and state government-owned rain and river level flood gauges into the Bureau's flood warning network across Australia.
The role of the Flood Warning Network Data Administrator is crucial in ensuring the quality management of the Bureau's flood data, supporting critical flood warning services and network management. They will coordinate processes across various business areas within the Bureau to ensure fit for purpose flood data and metadata for the FWIN program.
Key responsibilities include routine network monitoring and quality control, station onboarding, and investigations into data quality issues and network outages. They will assist in developing and reviewing procedures and systems to optimize the delivery of flood data management services, liaising with technical experts from across the Bureau and partner organizations.
Tasks involve onboarding existing and new flood warning sites coming into the AEM database, referred to as the Australian Rain and River Observations (ARRO) Database. This includes managing flood station metadata, data flows into downstream systems, and ensuring data quality is fit for purpose.
