MS Australia is seeking a Senior Policy Officer for a maternity leave cover until 30 September 2026. This role works within the advocacy team, reporting to the National Policy Manager, and undertakes policy research, analysis, and writing to support targeted and effective advocacy on issues relevant to people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
MS Australia is Australia’s national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to funding, coordinating, educating, and advocating for MS research as part of the worldwide effort to solve MS. It aims to achieve sustained and systemic policy change through advocacy and acts as a champion for Australia’s community of people affected by MS.
We are the largest Australian not-for-profit organisation focused on MS research and support.
About the role:
* Contract 22.8 hours per week (flexible)
* Contract finish 30 September 2026
* Location: Canberra / Hybrid / Other locations considered

Key responsibilities include:
* Provide policy advice and analysis on issues affecting people with MS, including monitoring, identifying, and responding to emerging policy issues.
* Draft and contribute to policy submissions, position statements, briefing notes, correspondence, and reports.
* Conduct background research and analysis for policy development.
* Manage MS Australia’s Lived Experience Expert Panel (LEEP).
* Incorporate lived experience into policy work and maintain relationships with the MS community.
About you:
* Experience in policy environments, including drafting strategic policy submissions and position papers.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Strong research and analytical skills.
* Understanding of issues impacting people with disabilities.
* Tertiary qualifications in health, social sciences, public policy, or similar.
* Experience engaging with and incorporating lived experience perspectives.
