About Us
Status Awareness Systems is a leading innovator in advanced safety, tracking and status monitoring solutions.
Based in Ulverstone, Tasmania, we specialise in GPS- and communication-based technologies that enhance safety, efficiency, and real-time awareness for industries such as motorsport and fleet management.
Why Join Us
An exceptional opportunity for skill development and professional growth by collaborating directly with directors, senior stakeholders, and technical teams in dynamic, high-impact environments.
Be empowered in a self-driven role that offers the opportunity to raise the standard of motorsport management systems and deliver meaningful improvements for competitors, and event organisers, worldwide.
Have an opportunity to use your previous experience to implement structured systems to empower and guide the technical team.
You will contribute to cutting-edge projects across motorsport and other specialised industries.
Responsibilities
Quality-Driven Systems & Processes: Define product roadmaps and establish processes for development, testing, and deployment, ensuring alignment with stakeholder expectations and organizational mission.
Technical Leadership: Act as the central point of contact between business, operations, software and hardware teams.
Drive the product requirement specification that will be developed through collaboration with business and technical stakeholders.
You will be the strategic driver of our technology — part visionary, part builder, part coach.
Lead a transformation journey: Lead the journey to develop the next-generation firmware for our embedded IoT platform that will not only incorporate the experience we have learnt but improve flexibility to ensure we can adapt to the evolving requirements of motorsport and emerging technologies.
Oversee Projects & Timelines: Design systems, prioritise features, and manage remote deployment and support of embedded firmware to deliver quality-driven results on schedule.
Required Skills
Experience with microcontroller firmware development in the C programming language with Real-Time Operating Systems (however this is not primarily a programming role).
An understanding of the main firmware architecture principles, their key benefits and trade-offs.
Experience with modern testing processes, particularly with testing hardware and enforcing system robustness.
The ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
An ability to collaborate with technical specialists, build consensus, and drive product development.
The ability to analyse data, identify emerging technological trends, and think strategically.
An understanding of the risks and challenges working with bare-metal hardware in remote, rugged environments.
A familiarity with motorsport, especially rally.
Exposure to cloud-based systems integration and the Azure platform.
Familiarity with communications standards including 3GPP, Iridium SBD, and RF-based networks.
Exposure to virtualisation technologies and modern development methods.
A willingness to travel to motorsport events worldwide to gain an understanding of the in-field operation of our system (However, this is not a primarily travel-based role).
