About the Role
Townsville City Council is seeking an experienced media professional to lead its Media team. As Team Manager Media, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping Council’s external media strategy, managing reputation, and helping build community trust through clear, timely, and compelling storytelling.
In this role you will lead the vision for a modern, agile newsroom — breaking Council news through both earned and owned channels, while maintaining strong relationships with local and national media.
This role provides high-level media and issues management advice to the Mayor, Councillors, CEO and senior executive team. You’ll also work across Council to champion our purpose of Growing Townsville and to help deliver the Corporate Plan in partnership with the Townsville community.
About You
You’re an experienced media leader - someone who can build trust, manage risk, and deliver stories that matter to our community.
As a collaborative and motivational team leader, you will:• Lead a high-performing team with confidence, care, and a newsroom mindset• Inspire and mentor team members to produce high-quality content and manage media relations effectively• Foster a culture of accountability and proactive communication, ensuring timely and strategic messaging
You will be a clear and confident communicator with excellent news sense, political acumen, and a strong understanding of the media cycle. Whether your background is in journalism, government, or corporate communications, you bring experience navigating complex issues and crafting messaging that cuts through.
