We are seeking a talented and motivated Communications Officer to play a pivotal role in telling the Burgmann story and strengthening our connection with current students, prospective residents, alumni and the wider community.

You are an organised, creative communicator and storyteller with a strong eye for detail and a genuine interest in education and community life. You enjoy collaborating with others, can juggle competing deadlines, and take pride in producing high-quality work. You love all platforms of communication: especially social media, newsletters, magazines, and websites. You communicate with a range of audiences with ease and delight in connections with people. Your 'why' is making community, and you really get this.
Essential skills and experience include:
* A tertiary qualification in Communications, Media, Marketing, Public Relations or a related discipline
* Demonstrated experience in communications, content creation and social media management
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences
* Strong editorial judgement, storytelling skills and attention to detail
* Experience using website CMS platforms, email distribution tools and analytics
* Experience supporting marketing, recruitment or event promotion activities
Desirable:
* Current full driver's license
About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Communications Officer will deliver engaging internal and external communications that support the College's strategic objectives, enhance student recruitment, build alumni engagement, and protect and promote the College's reputation.
This is a hands-on, creative role suited to a communications professional who enjoys working in a community-focused environment and can confidently manage multiple platforms, audiences and projects.
Key Responsibilities
Communications and Content
* Create high-quality written and visual content for newsletters, blogs, brochures, website pages, social media, email campaigns and print materials
* Maintain and update the College website and social media platforms to ensure accurate, engaging and on-brand content
* Coordinate internal communications to students, staff and key stakeholders across digital channels
* Prepare briefs and liaise with professional photographers and videographers to document College life and key events
* Coordinate and supervise student volunteers and interns contributing to social media and news content
* Prepare and distribute media releases as required
Marketing and Promotion
* Support student recruitment through targeted marketing campaigns, promotional materials and events, including the College's Open Day
* Assist with market research and analysis to inform communications strategy and messaging
* Support Burgmann's occupancy and community engagement initiatives
Brand and Reputation
* Ensure all communications reflect the College's brand identity, values and tone
* Identify and tell compelling stories that highlight student life, academic success and community achievements
* Track and analyse engagement metrics and prepare reports to inform continuous improvement
Advancement and Alumni Engagement
* Coordinate and produce the quarterly Alumni & Friends newsletter
* Assist with the preparation of the annual Impact of Giving Report
* Promote and support the College's Annual Alumni Awards Program
* Maintain the Alumni and Friends Events Calendar and support event promotion and registrations
* Assist with fundraising appeals, Gifts in Will and Workplace Giving communications
* Support alumni engagement activities, including events, tours and visits
* Assist with after-hours events from time to time, by agreement
