StreetWork
Youth Worker
Posted: 21 January
Offer description

Streetwork
applies a range of approaches and resources relevant to the individual to build rapport and connection. The Outreach Youth Worker is a support role that provides engagement and empowerment activities for vulnerable young people (aged 12-18 years) in the community. Their objective is to help marginalised and isolated young people by redirecting them through positive mentoring and practical support with the aim of linking them to the specialist youth services and agencies.

Streetwork's Approach to Supporting Vulnerable Young People has two components:

* Youth Workers
are responsible for organising activities to engage youth and facilitate personal development through fun and motivational activities; and
* Assertive Outreach
is a positive approach where youth workers engage directly with young people in their own environments, offering them support and connecting them to relevant services.

Assertive Outreach Activities

Street-based (or in-community) outreach is a model that provides services to vulnerable young people in public places. Outreach Youth Workers run activities in community spaces to establish rapport, create a visible presence, and promote other youth services. Street-based outreach enables youth workers to respond directly and immediately to a young person's needs by bringing services to them rather than waiting for individuals to come to services on their own.

The Young Person

An eligible Streetwork client is a young person at risk of homelessness, school disengagement and/or harm related to drug use, mental health, at risk of suicide or self-harm. Our young people are often from backgrounds of family breakdown, neglect, abuse, trauma, or involved in the youth justice system.
