Paediatric Basic Trainee
NSW Paediatric Physician Training - Eastern and Western Networks
Paediatric Basic Trainee positions are available for up to two year to commence as soon as possible within the current clinical year. Paediatric Basic Training positions are accredited for basic training in General Paediatrics or Subspecialty training as outlined by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. These positions are attached to one of the NSW Paediatric Physician Training Networks (Eastern or Western), each which is made up of a number of health care facilities. As these are network positions, they involve training in a variety of locations and clinical departments. Duties will be performed at more than one place of work. To comply with Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) training program requirements, trainees may be required to work in accredited facilities (including private hospitals). Facilities may be outside of NSW. The composition of each training network is provided in the Paediatric Training Network document. There may be additional accredited facilities not listed.
During Basic Training, the trainee will:
• Experience working in diverse medical specialties with a broad focus in Paediatrics & Child Health
• Complete training rotations as part of requirements for network training within a range of hospitals and health services
• Perform interventions under supervision appropriate for level of training
• Undertake duties that will be performed at more than one place of work
• Become clinically proficient in the care of children
• Build on skills learned during previous paediatric training and work towards advanced training
Trainees complete Basic Training over three years (36 months full time equivalent) guided by the Basic Training handbooks and curricula in Paediatrics and Child Health. Physicians and other health professionals supervise and mentor trainees throughout their training. The Divisional Written Examination and Divisional Clinical Examination is towards the end of training to test a trainee's knowledge and skills and determine if they are eligible to progress to Advanced Training.

Selection Criteria:
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
* Minimum of 3 years postgraduate experience, minimum 12 months recent accredited paediatric training and registered with the RACP (or equivalent) as a Basic Trainee, demonstrating progression through training.
* Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development. This includes demonstrated ability to teach and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff. Please provide an example.
* Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the appropriate management of the patient. Please provide an example.
* Demonstrated experience in taking comprehensive patient histories, performing clinical examinations and accurately documenting in patient records. Please provide an example.
* Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment. Please provide an example.
* Demonstrated clinical competency in procedures in paediatric environments including venepuncture, intravenous cannulation, and neonatal resuscitation. Please provide an example.
* Proven ability to organise, plan and manage competing tasks. Please provide an example.
