About the service, unit, location, and facility

The Transition to Speciality Practice - Oncology position is based at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital, within the Oncology Day Unit. This is a busy 8-chair, 1-bed unit providing treatment for adults with oncological and haematological diagnoses from Armidale and surrounding communities. Operating Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), the service delivers secure, compassionate, and person-centred care in collaboration with patients, families, carers, and the broader multidisciplinary team throughout the cancer journey.

The unit is supported by a dedicated Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Consultant, and a McGrath Breast Cancer Nurse, alongside a team of skilled and compassionate nurses who share a strong commitment to providing the highest standard of care.

What does the position involve?

The Transition to Speciality Practice (TSP) is a 12-month supported learning program designed to develop your knowledge and skills in oncology and haematology nursing. No two weeks will be the same, but you can expect to:

- Participate in supernumerary time with the Oncology Clinical Nurse Educator.
- Gain exposure to care coordination and palliative care.
- Complete the Anti-cancer Drug Administration Course and related clinical competencies.
- Attend dedicated education days that support completion of a Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing.

This role offers a rare opportunity to step into a highly specialised area with structured learning, hands-on experience, and continuous mentorship in a supportive and collaborative environment.

What we're looking for

We're seeking Registered Nurses who bring:

- Current registration with AHPRA.
- Completion of a Transition New Graduate Program or equivalent in an acute care hospital.
- A commitment to lifelong learning, collaboration, and delivering holistic, person-centred care.

While oncology experience is not essential, what is non-negotiable is professionalism, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. Specialist knowledge in oncology will be supported and developed through the program.

How you'll be supported

You won't be on your own - support is built into this program. You'll have access to:

- Oncology-specific educators, including CNEs, CNCs, and a Nurse Practitioner, for guidance and clinical teaching.
- A structured orientation program tailored to oncology practice.
- Ongoing education and professional development, including training required for HNELHD roles.
- Mentorship and exposure to advanced nursing roles, providing a clear pathway for your future career development.
