The Office of the Defence Seaworthiness Regulator (ODSwR) is proactively working to support the integration of Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS) into the Defence Seaworthiness Management System – the key maritime safety regulatory framework that applies to defence vessels. To help us achieve that we are seeking an experienced technical, policy, legal or regulatory specialist with a passion and background in RAS to join the newly established Emerging Capabilities Regulation and Assurance Directorate. \\[br]\[br]The Deputy Director Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS) will establish and lead the Robotic and Autonomous Systems Regulation and Assurance Team in the planning and delivery of strategic deliverables, business as usual tasks and ad hoc activities which: \\[\\[list]\[list-item]Support the integration of robotic and autonomous systems (RAS) into the Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSwMS); \\[\\[list-item]Support the identification and addressing of barriers to regulatory compliance across the Australian maritime regulatory framework; \\[\\[list-item]Identify and provide analysis and guidance on relevant environmental and safety risks; and \\[\\[list-item]Provides subject matter expertise in support of the activities of the broader organisation. \\[\\[list]\\\[/br]

This role will work closely with internal stakeholders in ODSwR, Australian Naval Classification Authority (ANCA), Maritime Integrated Capabilities (MIC) and Defence Legal, and external stakeholders such as the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) to identify issues and enact innovative regulatory and policy solutions. \[br]This role, like all roles in ODSwR, will also be supporting the whole-of-ODSwR project building and implementing a refined seaworthiness regulatory framework.

We are looking for candidates with a strong background working in a technical, policy, legal or regulatory capacity in the RAS ecosystem. We require a team leader with experience in developing and leading delivery of projects and initiatives, who can demonstrate:

* Strong understanding of the Australian maritime regulatory framework;
* Experience in providing subject matter expertise and analysis and guidance on relevant environmental and safety risks;
* Ability to create and convey analysis, advice and guidance to different audiences using different mediums; and
* The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, limited resources, and rapid change.
