Senior Prison Officer, to provide a critical role within Hopkins Correctional Centre.

Hopkins Correctional Centre is a male medium-security facility, located in the Grampians Region.

About The Role

As a Senior Prison Officer, you will take a lead role within custodial teams, coaching, mentoring and supporting Prison Officers. The role encompasses a range of teamwork, case management, custodial and security responsibilities.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of prisoner accommodation, be able to manage the day-to-day operations of a team of Prison Officers and the case management of more complex or difficult offenders. Offender management involves working in a team environment with other professionals to optimise the opportunities for rehabilitation through all aspects of the day-to-day routines, services and programs of the facility. You will model and reinforce positive behaviour and thinking within your team and with prisoners, to assist the individual prisoner's ability to change their behaviour and contribute in a positive manner to the community upon release.

You will ensure that you and your team of Prison Officers make appropriate notes, documentation and reports around working with and directly supervising prisoners within the offender Individual Management Plans (IMP). This includes direct offender management interactions with each prisoner to review progress and regular liaison with program staff to ensure the prisoner's program participation aligns with their needs.

Your duties will also include preparing prisoner assessments and provide advice and recommendation to prison-based committees and participate in programs and a variety of prisoner and prison activities. You will also contribute to the training of Prison Officer staff to facilitate learning, improve professional skills, and will also contribute to the maintenance and implementation of improved work processes and systems and may be required to conduct some statistical analysis.

A Pre-Employment Health Assessment and completion of the Prison Officer Pre-Service Training Program will be required for external candidates and non-custodial staff.

Some Of Your Duties Will Include

Co-ordinate the day-to-day operations of a team of Prison Officers.Work with all members of the prison to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors. This includes maintenance of the integrity of both the external and internal security of the facility, appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and ensuring compliance with security and safety procedures.Manage a caseload of offenders, including more difficult and complex offenders, in accordance with the requirements of offender management practices, liaising with the various Clinical, Vocational, Personal Development and Reintegration Service staff, to meet the identified needs of offenders.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Ability to manage a caseload of offenders and liaise with various stakeholders to meet the identified needs of offenders, including knowledge and understanding of the Offender Management Framework.Ability to lead and co-ordinate a team of Prison Officers, including the performance management process and the delivery of training, coaching and support to Prison Officers.Knowledge and understanding of LOPs, DCIs, CRs and relevant legislation and their application in the custodial environment.

Qualifications

Completion of Prison Officer Pre-Service Training.Completion of Certificate III Correctional Practice.
