Primary objective
Develop, manage and coordinate strategic policies and initiatives to promote health and wellbeing and reduce the prevalence
and chronic preventable conditions in the NT, particularly in population groups at highest risk.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high quality, comprehensive information and policy analysis with regards to prevention and health promotion.
2. Lead and manage strategic prevention policies and initiatives, including in the primordial and primary prevention space.
3. Lead, coordinate and prepare Ministerial briefings, correspondence, reports, discussions papers and Cabinet Submissions.
4. Develop and maintain effective partnerships and strategic alliances with key internal and external stakeholders, including

Aboriginal Medical Services and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, health services and government
agencies.

5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
7. Undertake other projects and initiatives as directed by the Director.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in providing high quality, comprehensive information, policy analysis and program

development advice in a prevention context.
2. High level of oral and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate and liaise effectively and consistently

with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
3. Highly developed understanding prevention and the underlying causes of chronic conditions, particularly in relation to

public policy.
4. Demonstrated experience in government processes, such as Ministerial briefings, Cabinet Submissions and the

interpretation and review of legislation.
5. Extensive experience in strategic planning and negotiating, managing initiatives.
6. Proven ability to work effectively within a team or individually and manage a high volume workload.
7. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues in the NT, particularly in relation to

providing services and support to Aboriginal people in remote settings.

Desirable
1. Bachelor/post graduate degree in public health, health promotion or other relevant qualification.
