This privately owned western australian engineering, foundry and manufacturing business operates across civil infrastructure, resources, rail and defence supply chains. With a vertically integrated model spanning design, production and testing, the company has built a strong reputation for quality, reliability and long‐standing client relationships.
The Opportunity
An opportunity exists for an experienced and hands‐on general manager to lead the overall operations of a well‐established SME. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will take full accountability for business performance, driving profitability, operational efficiency and team leadership across a multi‐disciplinary environment.
This is not a corporate leadership role — it requires a pragmatic operator who is equally comfortable on the workshop floor as they are in strategic and financial discussions.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead day‐to‐day operations across production, engineering, sales and support functions
* Drive financial performance, including P&L ownership, cost control and profitability targets
* Develop and lead Department Managers, improving capability and accountability
* Oversee compliance across ISO standards, regulatory frameworks and defence‐related requirements
* Manage budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting processes
* Improve operational efficiency across manufacturing, supply chain and service delivery
* Maintain strong stakeholder relationships across customers, suppliers and industry networks
* Support business growth through market engagement and identification of new opportunities
* Ensure governance, risk management and internal controls are maintained
About You
You are an experienced general manager or senior operational leader with a track record of delivering results in an SME or mid‐sized industrial environment. You combine strong commercial acumen with hands‐on operational capability and are comfortable taking full ownership of business outcomes.
o Demonstrated P&L accountability within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial business
o Strong leadership capability across multi-disciplinary teams
o Proven ability to improve efficiency, control costs and drive performance
o Experience in regulated or compliance‐heavy environments (defence exposure advantageous)
o Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance (AGSVA)
o A pragmatic, sleeves‐rolled‐up approach with a bias for action
o The ability to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery
