About Maranoa Regional Council
Centred on the regional hub of Roma, the Maranoa Council area covers 58,834 square kilometers and is home to Australia's largest sale yards, one of Queensland's busiest regional airports, and is the gateway to the Carnarvon Gorge. This role will provide a rich, varied and rewarding hands-on experience across a broad range of communications disciplines.
About The Position
Provide clear, timely and accurate public information that helps Maranoa residents understand Council services, decisions and emergency updates. The role plans and coordinates communications across media, web, social and internal channels; prepares materials for the Mayor/CEO/ELT; and manages media and issues responses so information is accessible, inclusive, consistent across Council, and compliant with privacy, records and Right to Information requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager - Corporate Communications, this varied role will draw on your broad communications and critical thinking skills to perform the following tasks with limited supervision:
* Plan and coordinate whole of Council communications
* Executive and civic communications
* Media relations and public information
* Digital, web and social media
* Internal communications
* Emergency and disaster communications
* Governance, brand and compliance

Required Skills And Experience
* Experience in developing communications campaigns that align with broad organisational strategies
* Proven experience responding to sensitive or time‑critical issues, including drafting holding lines, media releases and preparing spokespeople.
* Exceptional writing and editing across formats (speeches, media, web and social) with plain-English expertise.
* Experience in web and social publishing, community moderation, and analytics (e.g., GA4, platform insights).
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to align messages with Customer Service and service departments.
* Comfortable navigating graphic design tasks.
* Ability to think strategically and creatively.
* Strong initiative and desire to learn.
* Detail-orientated with excellent skills in managing and prioritising tasks.
* Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced and varied environment.
Qualifications And Licences
To be successful you will need to demonstrate that you meet the below mandatory requirements for the role:
* Current C (Car) Class Driver Licence
* Tertiary qualifications (or significant progress towards) Communication, Marketing, Journalism, or relevant experience in the field
Desirable Skills And Experience
* Queensland disaster/emergency communication experience (LDMG/SEMC context).
* Experience in design packages such as Canva Adobe Acrobat products (In-design, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro), Microsoft Office suite, and web-based applications.
* Familiarity with local government community consultation processes.
* Knowledge of and experience within the agricultural industry will be highly regarded but is not essential.
