About Freeman Vineyards
Freeman Vineyards is a pioneering, family-owned sheep and vineyard estate established in 1999 in the elevated Hilltops region of NSW. Our 200 ha of vineyards sit 500–600 m above sea level on deep decomposed-granite soils, allowing us to craft site-expressive wines from both classic and rare Italian varieties such as Rondinella, Corvina, Nebbiolo, Fiano and Prosecco.
The Opportunity
Reporting to founder and owner Dr Brian Freeman, the manager will take full stewardship of the vineyards and sheep flock. You will drive fruit quality, sustainability initiatives and innovation as we expand plantings and fine-tune our Italian-inspired portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate and Maintain tractors, spray rigs and other machinery.
* Develop and execute seasonal vineyard programs (pruning, canopy, nutrition, irrigation & yield management).
* Monitor and manage pest, disease and biosecurity risks.
* Optimise water scheduling and soil-health strategies.
* Lead the vineyard team: training, contractor coordination and WHS.
* Provide accurate yield estimates, maturity sampling and vintage logistics to the winemaking team.
* Assist to manage 1200 head sheep flock integrated in the vineyards.
About You
* Demonstrated experience with operating and maintaining farm machinery.
* Degree/Diploma in Viticulture or Ag Science is an advantage but not essential.
* Willingness to learn about viticulture.
* Strong grasp of sustainable and regenerative practices.
* Animal husbandry experience is a plus.
* ChemCert or spray qualifications, current driver's licence and forklift licence is desirable.
* Proven people-leadership, record-keeping and budget management skills.
* Passion for farming, a can-do attitude and willingness to live in or relocate to Young, NSW.
* Australia citizen/resident or holding a valid Australian work visa.
