How You Will Make An Impact
Accurate and timely Payroll is critical for the businesses we work with – their teams rely on Visory to get paid.
The Payroll Technical Lead is our central payroll subject matter expert – the person our Teams turn to when things get complex, ambiguous, or high risk.
In this role, you'll own the depth and coherence of payroll know‑how across Visory.
You'll be the final escalation point for complex payroll questions, set and maintain our standards and documentation, and help us design AI products that will keep our payroll accurate and compliant.
You'll spend your time solving real, sometimes messy problems – awards, terminations, redundancies, leave, payroll tax – and turning those solutions into repeatable products, guides, and workflows that our Teams and Payroll Officers can rely on every day.
You won't manage a team of Payroll Officers, instead, they sit within cross‑functional teams, and you'll work with team leaders, Business Performance Partners, to deliver expectational outcomes for customers.
In addition, you'll work with Sales, Onboarding and Product to ensure we can scale payroll with confidence.
What You Will Do Be the final escalation point for complex payroll Act as the go‑to expert for complex payroll queries from Managers and Payroll Officers
Support Teams on customer‑facing payroll issues that require deep technical interpretation.
Make clear, documented rulings on ambiguous scenarios so they can be reused across customers and teams.
Set and maintain payroll standards, rules and documentation Define Visory‑wide payroll standards
Translate legislative and award changes into clear, usable guidance and ensure it's adopted in practice.
Design and run payroll quality checks and audits Conduct thematic reviews across specific awards or recurring issue types.

Create practical training artefacts (playbooks, Loom videos, cheat sheets) that build repeatable competence.
Clarify when and how to elevate issues, and help embed those behaviours in day‑to‑day workflows.
Deeply curious and precise: You like understanding the "why" behind awards, EBAs and legislation, and you're uncomfortable leaving grey areas undefined.
Calm under pressure: You can stay steady when dealing with underpayments, compliance risk, and high‑stakes customer issues.
System thinker: You naturally look for patterns, root causes and ways to turn one‑off fixes into reusable rules or controls.
Teacher mindset: You enjoy explaining complex topics simply, and you get satisfaction from lifting the capability of others.
Ownership & judgment: You're comfortable making calls on ambiguous issues, documenting them clearly, and standing behind your reasoning.
Skills & Experience Significant experience (typically 7+ years) working in payroll roles with complex award / EBA environments in Australia.
Proven track record handling complex payroll issues
Strong understanding of payroll controls, risk, and quality assurance – ideally in a multi‑customer, multi‑entity or outsourced environment.
