The Tasmania Devils Football Club is embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime journey, building a professional AFL/AFLW club from the ground up. As we enter this historic and exciting phase, we are assembling a passionate and committed team to lay the foundation for a club that will unite, inspire, and represent all Tasmanians.
Your role
We're now seeking a Financial Accountant to help strengthen our finance function, support operational delivery, and contribute to an exciting phase of growth at the Club. The role is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, reconciliations, month-end tasks, and assisting with statutory and AFL reporting. Working closely with the Finance Manager, this role plays a key part in delivering efficient financial processes and contributing to the Club's overall financial sustainability and governance. Key focus areas include:
Financial Operations
Process and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate coding and approvals.
Prepare and post journals, accruals, and prepayments as part of month-end close.
Perform daily and weekly bank reconciliations and follow up outstanding items.
Maintain the fixed asset register including additions, disposals, and depreciation journals.
Support the Finance Manager in ensuring the accuracy of the ERP (D365 / Adaptive / Office Connect / ExFlow / Zeno).
Assist with the transition of AP, AR, banking and other finance processes from the AFL.
Payroll Support
Support Payroll Manager with timesheet checks, coding reviews, pay-run validation and reconciliation.
Integrate payroll data into the finance system and prepare payroll-related journals (super, PAYG, leave provisions).
Assist with payroll reconciliations to ensure accurate employee entitlements and compliance.
Maintain tight linkage between payroll and finance to support accurate reporting.
Month-end Reporting
Prepare month-end schedules including reconciliations, accruals, prepayments and project code set-up.
Ensure accurate revenue recognition (all TFC streams) and associated COGS where relevant.
Contribute to monthly management reporting, departmental P&Ls, and Board/FRAC financial packs.
Support the preparation of financial analysis and reporting to aid decision-making.
Prepare supporting documentation for BAS, GST, payroll tax and FBT lodgements.
Assist with AFL reporting requirements (CFR, TPP, Soft Cap and related submissions).
Support annual audit through preparation of workpapers and response to auditor queries.
Maintain compliance with statutory, audit and AFL obligations.
Banking, Treasury & Facilities
Process banking transactions, upload payment files and maintain vendor and credit card records.
Monitor cash flow, prepare bank reconciliations and support Treasury activities.
Assist with major project accounting including approvals, cashflow planning, funding needs and milestone monitoring.
Ensure adherence to budgets, delegation frameworks and financial controls.
Systems, Process Improvement & Governance
Maintain high-quality financial records aligned to audit, AFL and statutory standards.
Enhance finance systems, workflows and automation initiatives.
Uphold procurement, delegation and financial governance across the Club.
Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and improve finance processes.
Critical Skills & Experience
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or Finance, with CPA/CA completed or in progress.
3–5 years' experience in an accounting role with strong AP, AR, payroll support and month-end capability.
Confident working with Excel and modern accounting/ERP systems (e.g., D365, Adaptive, Workday, ExFlow, Zeno).
High level of accuracy, attention to detail and strong process discipline.
Organised, reliable and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Proactive, adaptable and committed to continuous improvement and problem solving.
