Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator
The Heavy Equipment Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of various types of powered construction equipment. Their responsibilities include excavating, moving, and grading materials, erecting structures, and assisting with concrete pours and demolition of hard surface pavement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Observe and comply with all company and site safety policies, contributing to Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and implementing frequent improvements or changes to the Job Safety Analysis Plan (JSAP).
* Perform daily pre-inspection and ongoing maintenance checks while operating equipment, taking necessary precautions to minimize risks of injury, property damage, or loss of life.
* Operate heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner, adhering to relevant policies and procedures, to achieve acceptable rough grade finishes in various soil conditions.
* Conduct constant inspections of surroundings before and during operation to ensure safe ground or slope conditions exist, as well as adequate distances observed for other equipment or personnel.
* Communicate professionally and respectfully with others through visual or radio contact, including interpreting hand signals to determine material placement or loading locations.
* Work independently with limited supervision, assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation, and take responsibility for equipment care and custody, including daily cleaning and maintenance.
* Report all equipment maintenance issues to superintendents and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Knowledge of OSHA regulations regarding excavation methods and practices.
* Able to read survey stakes for alignment and grading, and use different levels of personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include respiratory equipment.
* Performs duties while working in all safe outdoor weather conditions, able to read and interpret load charts for associated heavy equipment and manufacturer-approved attachments.
* Required to pass a skills test prior to operating heavy equipment, and demonstrate understanding of equipment limitations.
* Able to travel over extended periods on short notice, have access to reliable transportation, and meet attendance requirements.
* Ability to read, write, and understand math and English.
Education/Experience:
Evidence of equipment operating experience is required. Field verification of operator experience is essential for consideration.
