Short Street Store is a busy, community-driven café in Dubbo known for hearty, feel-good food, great coffee, and a strong team culture - all of the vibes We're growing our catering arm (weddings, race days, events) and are looking for a strong line chef who wants to be part of a positive kitchen with real room to grow.
This is a hands-on role with a clear pathway into more responsibility and leadership.
About the Role
You will:
* Cook and execute a menu focused on hearty, crowd-pleasing food with room for creativity (80% classics, 20% fun and alternative)
* Contribute to and run rotating specials
* Support smooth, efficient service and consistent food quality
* Work closely with the head chef and help train and support junior staff
* Be involved in our growing catering and events side of the business
* Maintain strong standards around organisation, cleanliness, and food safety
About You
You'll be a great fit if you:
* Have experience in a busy breakfast/lunch or café-style kitchen
* Stay calm under pressure and enjoy fast-paced service
* Care about systems, standards, and consistency
* Bring ideas and take pride in your work
* Are supportive and positive with juniors/apprentices
* Are reliable, punctual, and a good team player
This role won't suit someone who is regularly late, disengaged, or more focused on their phone than their section.
Hours & Lifestyle
* No nights
* Early starts, early finishes
* Half-day weekends (not every weekend, but a fair share as part of hospitality)
* Closed all public holidays except ANZAC Day
* Two-week shutdown over Christmas every year
