Job Description
We are seeking an innovative Data Scientist to join our Commercial Science & Systems team and be a vital member of the Decision System function. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional who thrives on analysing large, complex data sets to deliver actionable insights and build a competitive edge in the airline industry.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with Jetstar and Qantas commercial teams, the Jetstar Data Analytics team, Jetstar Digital and Marketing teams as well as external partners. Your work will directly influence the definition of pricing and product elasticity across fares and ancillary products, helping shape strategic decisions and drive revenue growth.
The core responsibilities of this role will be:
* Enhance forecasting and price optimisation models and algorithms to ensure robust decision-making.
* Use customer and booking interactions to inform product recommendations that enhance value for customers while supporting commercial outcomes.
* Analyse, identify and describe relationships and patterns in data to uncover new opportunities.
* Explore, integrate and develop new technologies and methodologies to advance analytics capabilities.
* Proactively identify commercially valuable opportunities and define relevant hypotheses for testing.
* Engage with peers across the business to discuss data meaning and complexity, fostering cross‐functional understanding.
* Work closely with stakeholders to determine their data requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
* Take ownership of processes and systems from inception to implementation, ensuring quality and consistency.
* Champion a culture of data‐driven, customer‐centric decision making throughout Jetstar.
To be considered, key skills will include:
* Tertiary degree (or equivalent experience) in a highly analytical discipline (e.g., statistics, mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering)
* Minimum three years' experience in competitive consumer retail markets such as energy, financial services, insurance, telecommunications or airlines
* Proven track record of leading the analytics capability within a data‐driven environment
* Strong commercial acumen and negotiating skills
* Ability to interact with and influence senior decision makers within the business
* Demonstrable experience with programming languages for machine learning (Python, R, MATLAB, etc.)
* Familiarity with advanced analytical techniques such as classification, regression and similarity matching and other machine learning, optimisation and data science techniques.
* Familiarity with ML‐Ops and software engineering principles.
* First class communication and presentation skills and the ability to inspire a highly functional team
* Competencies with Amazon Web Services ecosystem and scripting an advantage
* Experience in data mining, relational databases
* Excellent problem‐solving skills with the ability to think creatively and 'outside of the box'
