Events Management Queensland (EMQ) is a major event management company wholly owned by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Senior People & Culture Manager is responsible for driving the people and culture strategy for EMQ. You will lead the development and implementation of initiatives that strengthen organisational culture, enhance leadership capability, and ensure the workforce is equipped to support EMQ’s long-term growth.

This role combines strategic influence with hands on leadership. You will partner closely with senior leaders across the organisation, providing expert guidance on workforce planning, organisational development, and people matters.

You will also lead the HR function and manage the Workforce Manager, ensuring effective delivery of core HR operations while positioning the people and culture function as a key driver of organisational performance.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead the People & Culture Strategy aligned with EMQ’s organisational goals and future growth.

* Use workforce data, employee insights and industry trends to inform strategic HR initiatives and organisational planning.

* Partner with senior leaders to provide strategic HR advice across workforce planning, leadership capability, and organisational performance.

* Drive leadership development and culture initiatives that strengthen engagement, accountability, and performance.

* Lead talent and workforce planning, including recruitment, attraction, retention, and succession planning.

* Provide expert guidance on employee relations, managing complex matters while ensuring compliance with relevant employment legislation.

* With support from the external HR provider, develop, update, maintain and enforce EMQ’s HR policies and procedures, and other related HR documentation.

* Oversee annual remuneration review processes, including budgeting and performance based increases.

* Develop performance and capability frameworks that support professional development and high performance across the organisation.

* Assist with planning and coordinating employee engagement activities including Christmas parties and recognition programs.

* Oversee workplace health and safety and organisational wellbeing initiatives, fostering a safe and supportive workplace culture.

* Manage workers’ compensation claims to facilitate effective and timely return to work.

What You Bring
* Significant experience (5+ years) in a senior HR or People & Culture leadership role, with a strong generalist background.

* Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Psychology, or a related discipline are preferred.

* Demonstrated success developing and implementing people strategies that drive organisational performance and engagement.

* Proven ability to partner with executive leaders, influencing decision-making and shaping organisational direction.

* Experience leading organisational development, culture change, or transformation initiatives.

* Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, including the Fair Work Act, WHS frameworks, and Modern Awards.

* A collaborative leadership style with the ability to coach, influence, and build trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation.
