Key duties

The opportunity

ASIO is looking to recruit exceptional leaders to become part of the Executive team and work closely with the Director-General to drive significant ongoing and future-focused uplift in ASIO's capabilities – its people, technology and practices – supporting ASIO's mission to protect Australia and Australians from threats to their security.

We are seeking a highly committed, outcome-driven senior executive to fill a Deputy Director-General, Intelligence role.

As a Deputy Director-General, you will provide strategic leadership, management and advice in support of ASIO's mission. As an integral part of the Senior Leadership team, you will work closely with the Director-General, ASIO Senior Executive, broader Australian Government as well as international and industry partners.

The role will report directly to the Director-General, ASIO and will be responsible for the delivery of analysis, assessment and operational activities relating to ASIO's functions, including but not limited to counter terrorism, counter espionage and foreign interference.

What you will bring

We are inviting applications from senior leaders who have proven they can shape strategy and deliver enterprise culture and capability to enhance operational outcomes. You will need to demonstrate your good judgement, ability to innovate and deliver high performance, foster a positive security culture and lead and uplift capability.

You will also need to demonstrate your ability to maintain a strong understanding of the national security environment, legal frameworks relevant to working in Government and the National Intelligence Community, protective security policy settings and ASIO's strategic objectives to inform and align with current and future Australian Government requirements.

As a leader, you will be someone who is regarded as strategic, inquiring, imaginative and persuasive. Your leadership is critical to supporting ASIO in upholding the highest standards of governance, compliance and propriety. It is important that you can deliver results through people, and establish and maintain strong partnerships across the intelligence community in Australia and overseas, and with industry to ensure mission-critical objective are met.

* An Australian citizen.
* Assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a TOP SECRET-Privileged Access security clearance.

Salary package to be negotiated however, ASIO provides a number of benefits to its staff including:

* A competitive salary, including a 7.5 percent allowance for maintaining a TOP SECRET-Privileged Access security clearance.
* Employer superannuation contributions of 15.4 percent
* A variety of leave options, in addition to the standard 4 weeks leave
* Access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Employment conditions

Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
