Deputy director-general, clinical support queensland

Brisbane
Queensland Health
Deputy Director
Posted: 14 January
Offer description

* Join Queensland Health's executive leadership team and guide critical statewide services across diagnostics, health technology, screening and supply chain operations.
* Your role will be central in strengthening statewide service delivery and enhancing outcomes for communities across Queensland.

The role

The Deputy Director‑General, Clinical Support Queensland (CSQ) leads a statewide division that sits at the core of Queensland's health system capability. This role oversees a broad portfolio of highly specialised services, ranging from laboratory science and forensic expertise to health technology management, advanced screening programs and major logistical operations essential to clinical care. The position ensures these critical services operate seamlessly, reliably and in alignment with the needs of patients, clinicians and communities across Queensland.

As a senior leader, the Deputy Director‑General, CSQ guides long‑term planning, service modernisation and strategic development across a large multidisciplinary workforce. The role drives forward innovative approaches to clinical support, promotes integrated service models, and ensures the division is positioned to respond effectively to emerging health challenges, technological shifts and increases in service demand. It also plays a significant role in shaping system resilience, advising on statewide priorities, and supporting the Director‑General to advance whole‑of‑system reforms.

In addition to service leadership, the role contributes deeply to executive‑level decision‑making and influencing the direction of the health system. This includes shaping policy settings, embedding strong governance and performance frameworks, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to deliver sustainable, high‑quality services. A critical responsibility is championing initiatives that improve equity, particularly through strengthening access and outcomes for First Nations peoples and communities experiencing health disadvantage.

The successful person

The successful candidate will be an exceptional and experienced senior executive who thrives in complex, fast‑moving environments. They will have an extensive background leading large, multidisciplinary teams and overseeing functions that require precision, reliability and high operational oversight. Their leadership style will combine strategic clarity with the ability to motivate and empower people across a wide variety of professions.

They will possess a strong appreciation for how large health systems operate, including the interdependence of clinical services, public health infrastructure, technology, workforce capability, funding and regulation. This understanding will enable them to guide reform, anticipate system pressures, and make informed decisions that balance immediate operational needs with long‑term service sustainability.

The successful person will be highly skilled at operating across organisational boundaries, building productive relationships and securing collaboration from diverse partners. They will bring a steady, influential presence to an executive table, contributing insight that reflects both analytical strength and lived executive experience. Importantly, they will demonstrate an ability to navigate ambiguity, manage statewide risk, and lead confidently through periods of uncertainty and transformation.

The ideal candidate will show integrity, cultural capability, and a genuine commitment to public purpose. They will value partnership, respect diverse perspectives and bring a leadership approach that supports high‑performing teams and fosters positive, inclusive workplaces.
