Education Officer: English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) (0.2 FTE | 12‐Month Temporary Contract | Commencing Term 3)

Job Description

* Support schools, classroom teachers and curriculum leaders to develop and effectively implement responses to support the curriculum learning needs of all EAL/D students.
* Mentor, monitor and actively engage in the English language development, academic performance and wellbeing of schools supporting each EAL/D student.
* Support schools to create a positive and engaging learning environment, and professional practice informed by contemporary pedagogical EAL/D research.
* Assist EAL/D teachers to gather, collate and share student linguistic profiles, and use the EAL/D Learning Progression in conjunction with the ESL Scales and NSW syllabus documents to inform their practice – planning, creating and delivering effective and meaningful English language learning activities according to these documents.
* Deliver professional learning for schools and EAL/D teaching staff as required.

The Education Officer: English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) is responsible to the Director of Schools through the Head of Student Learning and Support.

All Education Officers will be supported with ongoing professional learning and networking opportunities to improve their knowledge and professional capacity.

Professional Practice and Development processes for the role will be established in consultation with the Head of Student Learning and Support. These will include feedback mechanisms from the Head of Department and relevant CS staff.

Experience/Criteria – Desired Skills and Experience

* Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools.
* Extensive experience in current, evidence‐based English language learning pedagogy and practice, and ability to communicate this to schools.
* Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education.
* Proven capacity to understand and empathise with students from non‐English speaking and refugee backgrounds and their families.
* Demonstrated capacity to build relationships, work collaboratively and respectfully within a team environment and with key stakeholders.
* Extensive experience in the ability to effectively utilise data to optimise educational outcomes.
* Proven ability to teach in a range of modes (Direct, Collaborative or Resource Teaching) in response to the needs of the students.
* Possess a comprehensive understanding of curriculum compliance and NESA requirements.
* Sound knowledge of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers or the EAL/D Elaborations and willingness to seek professional learning opportunities that maximise EAL/D student learning outcomes.
* High‐level skills and extensive experience in delivering professional learning with the capacity to provide system leadership in schools.
* Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and information technology skills.

Qualifications

* Qualifications as a four‐year trained teacher.
* Postgraduate TESOL qualifications or a commitment to undertake.
* Current NESA Accreditation.
* Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number.

Conditions of Employment

Salary is in accordance with New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory Catholic Systemic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2023.
