Legal Officer Grade IV

Legal Profession Admission Board

* Principal location – Sydney - Flexible working arrangements maybe negotiated.
* Employment type – Temporary (6 Months) – Full time (35 hours)
* Salary – Legal Officer – Grade 4, Base Salary ($144,058 - $146,831), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

Provide high-level legal advice, research, and drafting to support the Legal Profession Admission Board in delivering effective and compliant legal services. This is a great opportunity to work on complex, high-impact matters, contribute to law reform and policy development, and play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the legal profession in NSW.

The successful candidate will be required to attend Board and Committee meetings twice a month that conclude after usual business hours.

The successful candidate will be required to commence early once a month to assist the Supreme Court with its admission of lawyers ceremony.

What you'll do

As part of the Legal Profession Admission Board, you will deliver expert legal advice and undertake complex legal research to support the Board's statutory functions. You will manage and contribute to complex legal matters, drafting, policy development, and legislative interpretation.

You will also:

* Provide high-level legal and/or litigation advice on complex, sensitive matters
* Draft and interpret legislation, policies, submissions, briefing notes, and legal correspondence
* Undertake complex legal research and contribute to policy and law reform initiatives
* Prepare Board and Committee papers, instruments of delegation, and delegated legislation
* Act as Secretary of the Legal Qualifications Committee
* Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and legal frameworks
* Manage a diverse caseload and contribute to continuous service improvement
* Work as part of a small, collaborative and professional team that values expertise, integrity, and high-quality outcomes.

What we're looking for

* Extensive legal experience with demonstrated ability to support the Board and its committees and provide high-level advice on complex, sensitive or contentious matters, including strong analytical, research, and drafting skills.
* Sound understanding of the NSW legal system and the requirements for admission of legal practitioners, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a regulatory or policy context.
* Proven ability to manage competing priorities and a diverse caseload independently, exercising sound judgment and delivering high-quality outcomes within tight timeframes.
* Legal qualifications with eligibility to obtain and maintain a NSW practising certificate, and a commitment to maintaining up-to-date professional knowledge and standards.
