About Us
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in built and landscape environments. The QFD also offers scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities, delivering a multi-hazard emergency response including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and various community safety functions.
Purpose of the Role
* Protect and serve the community by responding to fires and other emergencies in a professional and timely manner to minimize loss to life, property, and the environment.
* Improve community safety and emergency preparedness through contributions to fire prevention and community education activities.
Entry Requirements
The role has two entry levels:
* Recruit Firefighter
* External Firefighter (Standing Order SO-Q-BM-3.26)

Mandatory Requirements
Before appointment as a Firefighter, applicants must provide evidence of or successfully complete the following:
* Hold a valid Blue Card from Blue Card Services, with attached supporting evidence.
* Manual Medium Rigid (MR) driver's license recognized by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
* Current Apply First Aid Certificate.
* Current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate.
* Meet QFD medical and fitness standards.
* Pass a Criminal History Check.
* Complete a Clinical Psychometric Assessment.
Your Key Accountabilities
Operations Management
* Respond to fire, road crash rescue/entrapments, technical rescues, hazardous material, and other emergency incidents as part of a fire crew.
* Operate emergency response vehicles and equipment safely and effectively, including driving fire appliances and other emergency vehicles under varying conditions.
* Provide first aid and resuscitation when required.
* Maintain QFD equipment, resources, and facilities to ensure operational readiness.
* Perform duties requiring practical application of skills and knowledge.
* Execute operational duties within the five roles of Operations Management: research and information, risk reduction, readiness, response, recovery.
Community Safety Operations
* Support community awareness in fire prevention through education programs and activities.
* Assist with property inspections, emergency response planning, and evacuation procedures.
* Communicate effectively within the workplace, with emergency personnel, and the community.
Professional Development
* Maintain competencies through training and self-development.
* Participate in tactical, operational, and technical functions to acquire and maintain skills.
Operations Business Management
* Undertake administrative duties and maintain station records.
* Contribute to a safe, healthy, and productive work environment, adhering to policies and legislation.
Capabilities
