NTRO is looking for an experienced road incident investigator / reconstructionist to join our Brisbane-based team on a casual or subcontract basis.
This position will require travel to regional sites within an estimated range of 1-6 hours from Brisbane. Site visits may require up to 2-3 days spent in the field. Project-related travel, accommodation, and meals will be supplied in accordance with standard TMR provisions.
* Post scene road incident investigation and analysis, with an emphasis on determining facts and contributory factors, as opposed to any attribution of blame to any of the parties.
* Crash reconstruction, including physics-based analysis of vehicle motion to assess speed, impact severity, avoidance opportunities and consistency with witness statements.
* Application of Road Safety principles to identify contributing factors and systemic risks, including applying investigation models / techniques such as Humas Vehicles Environment (HVE) and Incident Cause Analysis Model (ICAM).
* Analysis of road design, roadside environment, and traffic conditions in relation to crash outcomes - both incidence and severity.
* Lead in-depth investigations of fatal and serious injury crashes.
* Preparation of factual investigation reports in an agreed format / template.
* Sound knowledge of the Safe System approach to road safety and awareness of associated tools such as the Austroads Safe System Assessment Framework, and hierarchy of controls as applied to road environments.
Ability To Interpret And Correlate
* Police event and reconstruction reports (including court briefs)
* Witness evidence
* Forensic crash reconstruction outputs
* Coroner findings and autopsy reports (where applicable)
* Road and environmental conditions at the time of the crash, including network survey data covering parameters such as roughness, rutting, skid resistance and surface texture.
Kindly express your ability / availability / willingness to work to tight deadlines, including after hours and potentially whilst experiencing inclement weather.
From a team perspective, it will be important to assess site risks (prior and during the inspections), look out for self and others involved.
