Our federal government client, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer / System Administrator to design, deploy and support secure, Linux-first infrastructure within a discrete operational network supporting critical data ingest into AFP systems.
Key responsibilities
* Design, deploy and support Linux (Ubuntu) and selected Windows Server infrastructure
* Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using Ansible and Git/GitLab
* Administer VMware vSphere/ESXi environments end-to-end
* Configure and support Cisco firewalls, switches, and secure network segmentation
* Work in a small, highly trusted team within a high-assurance security environment
* Produce clear documentation and knowledge transfer artefacts
About you
* Strong Linux (Ubuntu) systems engineering background
* Hands-on experience with Ansible, Git/GitLab, and automation-first practices
* Proven VMware virtualisation expertise
* Solid networking and security experience (Cisco)
* Comfortable operating in government or high-security environments
Desirable
* Containers (Docker/Podman, Kubernetes)
* Monitoring, backup, vulnerability scanning, and data ingest pipelines
* Federal Government / national security project experience
