The role & you
Are you ready to kickstart your career in water infrastructure? Join the Water Project Delivery team at MidCoast Council as a Trainee Water Network Construction and develop practical skills in the construction, maintenance, and renewal of water and sewer networks. This role offers hands-on experience supporting essential community projects, ensuring safe and reliable water and wastewater services across the region.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop skills and knowledge to assist in the operation, maintenance, and renewal of water and wastewater networks and treatment works.
* Support construction, alterations, and renewal of water and wastewater assets under the planned renewal program.
* Assist in containing and managing water and wastewater products within the systems.
* Learn to operate and maintain process plants, pumping stations, and distribution networks.
* Aid in repairing plant, equipment, and system components.
* Respond to public and emergency calls related to reticulation restrictions and surcharges, accurately recording information.
* Attend and complete formal training sessions and assessments promptly.
* Maintain a positive and proactive attitude toward learning and development.
* Participate in regular performance reviews and contribute to continuous improvement.

We're looking for someone with a strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills in water network construction and maintenance. The ideal candidate works safely and effectively both independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills and a dedication to serving the community are important. Flexibility to respond to emergency and operational needs is essential, along with a commitment to completing training and adapting to changing job requirements.

Please note that to be a successful candidate for this role you'll be required to complete a pre-employment basic skills assessment and medical check
(medical assessment will include a drug and alcohol test, sight and hearing, functional and medical component)

* Successful candidates will commence employment on Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

Salary:
The salary for this traineeship ranges from approximately
$31,288 to $53,196 p.a.
in accordance with theLocal Government (State) Award. Your salary will be determined based on your age, qualifications, and any previous work experience. Superannuation (12%) is additional.

An allowance of $95.34 per week will also apply. (Trainee Water Allowance)

Location:
Upon commencement your normal place of work will be the MidCoast Council Tuncurry Depot, Gray Gum Road. You will also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure:
Full-time 38 hours per week over a 24-month period.

Monday 6 October 2025 at 11.30 pm.
