About the opportunity

We would like to provide an opportunity for staff to submit an expression of interest (EOI) for a secondment to the role of infection prevention and control (IPAC) clinical nurse consultant (CNC) nurse immuniser (up to EFT 1.0).

The secondment role will be covering the influenza campaign. The role will be aligned to the local infection prevention and control team and will directly report to the Infection Prevention and Control Manager.

The IPAC CNC nurse immuniser is primarily responsible to provide immunisation advice to doctors, nurses, parents and community immunisation providers, opportunistic immunisation to the patients, visitors and staff of Mercy Health and work with the outpatient and staff health immunisation clinic, in line with the Mercy Health – wide philosophy and culture of patient and family centred care, vision and values.

The IPAC CNC nurse immuniser will also act as a liaison nurse for the IPAC team. They must be willing to be trained regarding infection prevention and control programs and practices. They will support and assist the IPAC team in the collection, entry, analysis and reporting of surveillance data in VICNISS. Other responsibilities include in helping maintain hand hygiene compliance rate, providing clinical advice to staff regarding IPAC practices, providing formal and informal education sessions to staff and patients and assist in Standard 3 activities like environmental and clinical area audits.

To thrive in this role, you will have:

Qualifications and Registrations:

* Current registration as Registered Nurse with AHPRA and have a minimum of 2 years' experience
* Current accreditation as a Nurse immuniser
* In date anaphylaxis training
* Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate (BLS or ALS)

Knowledge and skills:

* A desire and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to bring about positive change in health outcomes
* A clear respect for Aboriginal culture, ability to listen and learn, and willingness to participate in cultural safety training
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to relate to and work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
* Commitment to ensuring client and organisational confidentiality, specific to work role.
* An understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, community experiences of health, principles of primary health care and relevant state/national legislation governing health practices in Victoria
* Demonstrated initiative and ability to work autonomously, within the scope of practice and the work requirement of the role while demonstrating a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
* Sound knowledge of any vaccine administered including its indications, contraindications, risks associated, etc.
* Willingness to undertake other responsibilities, as reasonably requested by the Infection Control Team that are in accordance with skills, scope of practice and qualifications.

You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining:

* A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
* Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders.
