Overview

Southern NSW Local Health District is recruiting for Senior Clinician roles within the Youth Mental Health Initiative (YMHI). The YMHI is a new youth mental health service that aims to improve early access to care for 12 – 25 years presenting to headspace services with severe and complex mental health needs. The YMHI will enhance youth mental health supports in Southern NSW by improving integration across services.

Location: Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia. Employment type: Temporary Full Time (contract until 30 June 2026). Hours per week: 38. Applications close: 12 October 2025. Interview details: Scheduled within 10 days of closing. This position qualifies for the NSW Health Rural Incentive Scheme with a value of up to $5,000.

The Senior Clinician will be part of the local SNSWLHD Community Mental Health teams, with time co-located within headspace centres. They will work with partner agencies to enhance youth mental health pathways and services, develop streamlined referral pathways, and ensure timely transition of care between partner services.

Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing

* Provide trauma-informed, culturally safe, intensive therapeutic interventions and integrated psychosocial responses to young people experiencing complex and severe mental health concerns.
* Provide leadership, mentorship and supervision to ensure delivery of strengths-based and recovery-oriented mental health care and treatment.
* Collaborate with headspace and partner agencies to enhance youth mental health pathways and services, including developing streamlined referral pathways and ensuring timely transitions of care.

Selection Criteria

* Relevant tertiary qualifications and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists or Psychologists, or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) for Social Workers. Significant clinical experience in child and youth mental health is highly desirable.
* Extensive postgraduate clinical experience and knowledge in evidence-based mental health assessment and treatment for young people and their carers; understanding of trauma-informed care.
* Ability to apply advanced reasoning and independent professional judgment to manage complex clinical care and service delivery issues.
* Ability to work effectively independently and within a multidisciplinary team to achieve service goals and improve consumer care and outcomes.
* Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; competence with information technology systems.
* Ability to initiate, lead, complete, and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes; lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
* Ability to provide clinical supervision and support to staff and students.
* Current unrestricted driver's licence and ability to drive/travel as the role requires, including potential long-distance travel and overnight stays.
